Our co-founder BInod Shankar quit corporate life 6 years ago. Now he co-runs the largest CFA prep company in the Middle East and teaches CFA full time. He has taught to over 2,000 + students. With 72 days to the CFA exams and less than 2.5 months to D Day.
Here is his top ten tips to ace the CFA Exam:
You MUST finish your studies by early May 2015
There should be only a few “grey areas” by the time you finish studying
Focus on the big topics as you study; in Level I it is FRA, Ethics and Quants. In Level II its FRA and Equities. In Level III it’s Individual and Institutional Portfolio Management. These will have a huge impact on whether you pass or fail.
Take notes if you wish as you study- these can be quite useful during revision
Don’t sweat the small stuff (e.g. detailed study of Derivatives in Level 1). It is a waste of time. You won’t “get” everything, you don’t need to and you just need to pass
Merely reading Schweser or the CFA Curriculum is not enough. You MUST solve as many problems as possible to embed the concepts
Problem solving should NOT be kept for revision only. Do these NOW, as you study. Trust me you won’t get time later for this and it’s a deadly (but common) mistake to defer this. In Level I you need to work out at least 2,000 MCQs before 6 June. For Level II at least 300 item sets. For Level III at least 100 essay and 150 item sets
By the time you finish studies (and before revision), you would have forgotten tons of stuff and you will wonder why. Don’t stress. This is natural and happens to everyone. This is exactly why you need a proper revision! It will call come back to you then
Revision should start latest by 15 May 2015; you need at least 3 weeks
If you are in the GCC/UAE/Dubai try and attend the Genesis RevisionPro for all three levels. We’ve been running this for 6 years, It’s the best revision course money can buy and it is a game changer.
